Dubai: Employees from Majid Al Futtaim, the leading shopping mall, retail and leisure pioneer across the Middle East and North Africa, have recorded the company’s first Guinness World Records title by coming together to create the world’s largest painted wooden block mosaic.

More than 1,000 employees, family and friends joined together to paint 930 wooden blocks which were used to create the 45.5 sqm golden ‘M’, made famous in Majid Al Futtaim’s logo. The blocks were painted within four hours to ensure that the logo was completed and the company now has its place in the history books.

Robert Welanetz, Chief Executive Office at Majid Al Futtaim – Properties said: “I continue to be extremely impressed by our people and their drive to live the company’s values of being bold, passionate and together. Their positive approach to life at Majid Al Futtaim is a direct reflection of our founder’s vision to create great moments for everyone, every day. Once again they have shown their passion for achievement by joining together to break a world record and it’s a reminder of how much we can do as a group.”

Adjudicated by officials from Guinness World Records, Majid Al Futtaim was declared the new World Record holder at 4.30pm on Thursday, 28 April, 2016.

Samer Khallouf, Head of Records Management Team at Guinness World Records witnessed the record breaking activity and said: “Initially, we challenged Majid Al Futtaim to break the record for the most people to contribute to a painted wooden block mosaic. That record stood at 529 participants in Germany but the record was broken by 3,633 participants in Australia the day before the Majid Al Futtaim event. So we quickly changed the challenge and asked the Majid Al Futtaim family to break the record by the size of the final image. They created a painting seven times larger and in doing so showed their spirit of togetherness. We congratulate the whole team on their new title as Guinness World Records title holders.”

On completion of painting the iconic ‘M’, Mouien Al-Madhoun, Human Capital Officer at Majid Al Futtaim – Holding, Robert Welanetz, Chief Executive Officer at Majid Al Futtaim - Properties and the organising team of Kriszti Ghunaim, Hiba Balfaqih and Nada Qureshi collected the official Guinness World Records award.

Mouien Al-Madhoun complimented Majid Al Futtaim employees, saying: “We place great emphasis on our brand values and encourage our employees to push the boundaries. The fact that we changed the challenge at the last minute and still achieved a world record is testament to their positive attitude and commitment to attain the highest results. We are extremely proud of our people and look forward to breaking even more records together in the future.”
