Alexandria, Egypt: In celebration of the City Centre brand’s 20th anniversary across the region, City Centre Alexandria, owned and managed by Majid Al Futtaim, is reiterating its dedication to supporting the arts and talents of their mall visitors by launching a community-driven “Art of C” campaign. The campaign will run from May 16-20, with a “C” art gallery being held in the mall.

Art of C is a regional campaign, originally launched by Majid Al Futtaim in 2013 in City Centre Bahrain. After the great impact the campaign had on the local level, the leading company decided to spread the inspiration across the various markets where it operates. In 2014, Art of C took place in City Centre Maadi in Egypt; City Centre Bahrain; City Centre Beirut in Lebanon; City Centres Muscat and Qurum in Oman; City Centres Deira, Mirdif, Sharjah, Ajman, and Fujairah in the UAE; and finally arrived to Alexandria in May 2015 to praise the rich culture and heritage of the city and allow mall visitors to share their passion for art with renowned artists.

“At City Centre Alexandria, we’re keen to offer an integrated experience to mall visitors, creating great moments for everyone, everyday. In addition to housing a wide range of shopping, dining and entertainment options under one roof, we’re keen to offer a unique cultural experience to the local community,” said Mostafa Kholief, Mall Manager at City Centre Alexandria. “As we’re celebrating the 20th anniversary of the City Centre brand across the region, we’re proud to partner with renowned Egyptian artists to help spreading and promoting the City Centre spirit.”

The first day of the campaign will be devoted to a children’s art gallery. A workshop will be held for 10 kids who study art in one of the best art centers in Alexandria: Art Attack Center, supervised by teachers of the Faculty of Fine Arts. The children will paint small “C” mockups, which will be judged by Dr. Farouk Wahba, Professor of Painting Design at the Fine Arts Alexandria University, who will join the campaign’s fifth day to pick “The Future Artist”. All participants of this workshop will receive giveaways from the mall, which will be professional painting sets, while “The Future Artist” will be awarded the grand prize - a Samsung Tab.

From May 17-19, the main art gallery will take place and will be located at the Central Galleria, in front of Gate 4, for eight hours each day. The gallery is open to all mall visitors, and will paint under the supervision of a group of teachers from the Faculty of Arts. The activities will also include five renowned artists, who will have a stage set so that each one can paint their own large ‘C’ mockup. Moreover, the five artists will interact and share with mall visitors the experience of painting and coloring another five C mockups of medium size, to make a total of 10 ‘C’ mockups in the Central Galleria.

The final day will involve a live show from the international artist Nazir Tanbouli, who will paint and color the large ‘20th’ mockup throughout the day, in celebration of the City Centre brand anniversary. Tanbouli will do his well-known show called “Dancing with a Brush” where he will be painting accompanied by the Oud music. The stage, therefore, will have the huge 20th mockup structure in the middle plus 20 colored ‘C’ mockups distributed around it.

On the same day, the famous, international artist Dr. Farouk Wahba, and Nazir Tanbouli will both examine and comment on the final works displayed in the main art gallery, as part of their long standing commitment to promoting culture and arts in local communities.

“It is a great pleasure for me to be part of this exceptional initiative, which aims at encouraging Alexandrians to embrace fine art and unleash their talents,” said Dr. Farouk Wahba. “I’m delighted to see City Centre Alexandria take an active role to engage both children and adults in artistic activities, and look forward to more creative initiatives of the same nature.”

During the week after, all painted mockups will be displayed in several spots around the mall, which will create an artistic atmosphere for all shoppers.

Undertaking initiatives that bring communities and people closer together is not a first for City Centre Alexandria, with the Art of C being one of the many ways of confirming the mall’s commitment to playing an active part in its respective community
