Building on their mutual cooperation which raised more than EGP 255,000 to support community welfare facilities.
Cairo, Egypt: H.E. Ghada Wali, Minister of Social Solidarity, and Majid Al Futtaim, MENA’s leading shopping mall, retail and leisure pioneer announced today that they have signed a cooperation protocol for one year. The protocol, which is inline with the Ministry’s goals and the company’s vision of creating great moments for everyone everyday, comes within the framework of implementing sustainability strategy aiming at supporting and improving the standard of living for Egyptians.. The protocol was signed by H.E. Ghada Wali, Minister of Social Solidarity, along with Majid Al Futtaim’s senior management in Egypt, including Mr. Abdalla El Nockrashy, Egypt Country Head for Majid Al Futtaim Properties, and Dr. Herve Majidier, Executive Regional Director for Majid Al Futtaim Retail Egypt, KSA, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrein.
The protocol aims at enhancing the cooperation between the Ministry of Social Solidarity and Majid Al Futtaim as they both seek to achieve common objectives in providing care and support to underprivileged and needy individuals through Majid Al Futtaim shopping centers across a number of Egyptian governorates.
“The cooperation protocol is the fruitful outcome of the of CSR unit within the Ministry. It aims to develop community welfare facilities through donation campaigns implemented by Majid Al Futtaim. The objective is to provide the necessary equipment to community welfare facilities, as well as improve programs, activities, and services introduced in these facilities including those for the elderly, homeless children, people with special needs, and abused women,” said Dr. Ghada Wali, Social Solidarity Minister. “The Ministry of Social Solidarity plays a vital role in achieving comprehensive social development and encouraging civil society to participate in achieving this development to elevate living standards for less fortunate people.”
The protocol aims to develop community welfare facilities through three areas of cooperation, including providing job opportunities to people with special needs and integrating them into the labour market by providing them with jobs at Majid Al Futtaim, allocation of spaces in Majid Al Futtaim shopping malls to encourage small entrepreneurs marketing their products in addition to enhancing the infrastructure of the care institutions through the donation campaigns implemented by Majid Al Futtaim’s widespread network of shopping malls, retail and leisure assets throughout the year.

“The New Year donation campaign which Majid Al Futtaim started in January 2016 was a starting point for a fruitful cooperation with the Ministry of Social Solidarity,” said Herve Majidier, Executive Regional Director - Majid Al Futtaim Retail Egypt, KSA, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrein. “The fundraising campaign, aiming at creating great moments for everyone, everyday, was able to collect donations through our shopping malls, in addition to Carrefour stores in Egypt. A total of more than EGP 255,000 was collected during the campaign. The amount has been donated to the Social Takaful Foundation, a subsidiary of the Ministry of Social Solidarity, which subsequently allocated the money to develop the infrastructure of eight orphanages nationwide.”
Cooperation between Majid Al Futtaim and the Ministry of Social Solidarity goes beyond this initiative. Earlier this month, Majid Al Futtaim’s first ever employment fair in Egypt was inaugurated by H.E. Ghada Wali, Minister of Social Solidarity. The employment fair offered over 4000 job opportunities across a variety of specialties and different seniority levels, with a number of jobs reserved for youth with special needs.
Moreover, Majid Al Futtaim lunched other initiatives in the past three years including the renovation of 50 houses for families with low income in El Menya with the assistance of Majid Al Futtaim employees volunteering to offer on ground support in addition to the continuous support to Cancer hospital and the Red Crescent.
