Fundraising event sells a record 700 metres of cake, raising AED80,000 for Dubai Center for Special Needs

Dubai: Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates, in partnership with Mall of the Emirates, raised AED 80,000 for the Dubai Center for Special Needs over the weekend through the sale of its longest string of Stollen cake yet.  Measuring a staggering 700 metres, this is the 10th consecutive year the hotel’s skilful culinary team has baked a traditional Stollen cake to mark the start of the festive season.

The Stollen, a festive variety of the traditional German fruitcake, took a team of 15 chefs weeks to prepare, and with the help of 60 volunteer team members the event was a resounding success. The cake was displayed at the Mall of the Emirates from 10:00am onwards on Saturday morning and was sold out in nine hours. The fun-filled family event featured lots of festive entertainment, including a visit from Santa Claus, and shoppers were also treated to delicious samples of Stollen cake by students from the Dubai Center for Special Needs who lent a helping hand at the event.

Grant Ruddiman, General Manager of Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates said, “The Annual Stollen Charity Cake Sale has become somewhat of an institution for us at the hotel and it’s great to see our employees come to together at the start of the festive season to spread holiday cheer in the community.” He added, “We set a new record this year and I would like to thank everyone that came along and supported our charity cake sale this weekend.”

“We are delighted to host the Annual Stollen Charity Cake Sale for the 10th consecutive year at Majid Al Futtaim’s luxury shopping destination, Mall of the Emirates, and to ring in the holiday season together with our partners Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates. This event is a cherished tradition for us and our loyal shoppers and one which we look forward to all year,” said Hussain Moosa, Associate Director for Shopping Malls, Majid Al Futtaim Properties, “I would like to thank the students from Dubai Center for Special Needs, our mall staff, partners, volunteers and shoppers that supported this important fundraising event, and together created a great moment to kick off the festive season activities at the mall.”

Dr. Mahshid Salehi, Director of the Dubai Center for Special Needs (DCSN), said: “The Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates has been supporting us for many years. In addition to the annual Stollen charity that we look forward to every year, the hotel has helped DCSN by offering our students work placements in the past, which are a very valuable and integral part of our curriculum. The charity cake sale is a highlight on our annual calendar and many of our students were at Mall of the Emirates to enjoy this festive and noble event.” Dr. Salehi added: “We would like to thank the entire team at Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates and Mall of the Emirates who have worked around the clock for weeks to make this event happen.”
