Dubai, UAE: Majid Al Futtaim, the leading shopping mall, retail and leisure pioneer across the Middle East and North Africa, today welcomed students from Bradenton Preparatory School to mark a unique moment through the creation and burial of a time capsule on the site of its sixth City Centre mall in the UAE, and ninth in the region, City Centre Me’aisem.

The time capsule contains communication and technology tools as mobile phones, magazines, newspapers, ‘letters to the future’ and other insights. Developed by grade 6 to 12 students from Bradenton Preparatory School in nearby Dubai Sports City, the time caspule will be a snapshot of community life in 2015 for the new retail destination, set to open later this year.

Named for its location in the Me’aisem area of International Media Production Zone (IMPZ) in Dubai, the mall is strategically situated in the growth corridor of Dubai near the intersection of Al Khail Road and Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road. Being connected to two of Dubai’s major highways, phase one will serve three burgeoning residential areas, Victory Heights, Jumeirah Golf Estates and Jumeirah Village, in addition to other communities such as Motor City, Sports City and Arabian Ranches.

With an investment of AED 275 million by Majid Al Futtaim, phase one of City Centre Me’aisem will combine retail and leisure brands such as Carrefour and Magic Planet with services including a City Centre Clinic to address the wellness needs of nearby residents and professionals working in the area.

“As this is the 20th anniversary of Majid Al Futtaim’s City Centre brand, we invited Bradenton Preparatory students to create a time capsule that tells a story about community priorities and perspectives in 2015, which we can then uncover and reminisce on in another 10 years from now,” said Ali Al Abdulla, Senior Director – Community, Neighborhood Malls Development and Government Affairs for Majid Al Futtaim - Properties. “The aim of City Centres is to deliver a premium shopping and leisure experience creating great moments for everyone, everyday through meeting the needs of the communities we serve, and City Centre Me’aisem has been created to serve the expanding residential, academic and commercial areas within Dubai.”

Bradenton students visiting the mall during its construction learned that City Centre Me’aisem’s structure is made of 2,850 tonnes of steel, the equivalent of 203 school buses, and that it will include 49,370 tonnes of concrete, equivalent to eight Olympic size swimming pools. The students were also thrilled to receive hard hats and vests from mall contractor Brookfield Multiplex, official partner of the time capsule event.

The up-coming community lifestyle destination is built in line with Majid Al Futtaim’s sustainability vision and will feature energy-efficient LEED-compliant lights and water saving taps, with more than 83% of all construction elements coming from recycled material.

Employing the world-class design, sustainability measures, accessibility and premium finish established by Majid Al Futtaim’s first City Centre in 1995, the new mall is set within a spacious one million square feet of land to accommodate expansion as required by its communities’ needs by 2020. When the mall opens later this year, a range of fashion and lifestyle brands including Centrepoint, H&M and Sun & Sand Sports will join a diverse line-up of casual dining options at City Centre Me’aisem, as well as services including banking and mobile operators
