Lights were turned off during 60 minutes to promote energy conservation

Manama, Bahrain: City Centre Bahrain—the largest shopping, leisure and entertainment destination in Bahrain, owned and managed by Majid Al Futtaim—joined the global movement of Earth Hour, aiming to unify in protecting the planet, from 8:30-9:30pm, on Saturday March 28, 2015.

On Earth Hour, millions of people around the world turned off their lights for one hour, to show their commitment to a greener planet. City Centre Bahrain participated in the global movement by switching off all dispensable mall lights including external signage, landscaping and floor lights, in the efforts to promote energy conservation. For customer safety, interior mall lights were dimmed, and all car park lighting remained on.

“City Centre Bahrain participated in Earth Hour for the fifth consecutive year, and through our actions we hope to raise awareness on the need to promote energy conservation,” said Duaij Khalifa Al Rumaihi, Senior Mall Manager for City Centre Bahrain. “We are humbled by all communities coming together and joining this important initiative in making a statement to help protect the environment.”

In 2014, Earth Hour broke all records of mass participation mobilising hundreds of millions of people, with the event observed in over 162 countries and territories and over 7000 cities and towns. Earth Hour is a grassroots movement which was founded in 2007 and has since become a global movement.

Underlining Majid Al Futtaim’s vision to create great moments for everyone, everyday, Majid Al Futtaim’s shopping malls across the region will also be supporting Earth Hour in a joint-initiative to strive for a better future.
